DEPART FROM DEBORAH BAY DAILY

READY TO SEE FOR YOURSELF?

Our Story

After a lifetime at sea as a commercial fisherman and sailor often with only the birds for company, we developed a deep connection to them. They were there to share in our great catches, they were there to see us home during storms and they were there when there was nothing else. Always partners on the Ocean. Over the years we’ve seen change and now we have a better understanding of how we can foster their wellbeing and support the local bird life.

With pressures on their habitat, declining natural food stocks as well as a change in legislation around returning discards from fishing vessels means life’s getting harder, we’ve made it our mission to invest in the health and sustainability of Dunedin’s Sea Birds.

By supporting our work, you’re not just feeding the birds today you’re helping secure the future of a few local birds. Together, we can protect and preserve these remarkable creatures for generations to come by one meal at a time.

Truby King

To get you out among the Albatross, Dunedin sea birds use there 12m vessel Truby King. A registered and sea worthy vessel with an experienced crew. Truby King has covered seating for all her passengers with a maximun of 10 people ensuring plenty of space for all. This low number allows us to make your experience more personal and when feeding the albatross there’s plenty of space at the rail for everyone to get amazing up-close pictures.

Our trip takes us out to the entrance of Otago Harbour where to Tairoa Heads the breading site is for the Royal Albatross. Trips are all conducted with the weather determining where we feed and how far out we go into open water. Trips are carried out so the comfort of even poor sailors can have a great experience.
